Items such as a bag, briefcase, laptop, or camera bag (as well as items of the same or smaller size) may be subjected to the “Personal Items” category.

Currently, airlines regularly accept passengers to board the plane with one personal item besides the hand luggage. Here are belongings which may fall under this category: laptop bag, camera bag, ladies' or men's bag, briefcase, backpack, etc.

Please, ensure your personal item will fit under the seat in front of you or in the luggage compartment. (If not, it will have to be checked at boarding and then returned upon exiting the aircraft.) We strongly recommend that you review the baggage policies of all airlines involved in your itinerary, as they will contain useful information such as:

(a) the maximum size allowed for your personal item, which may differ (here's an exemplified comparison between United and American Airlines: 17 x 10 x 9 inches versus 18 x 14 x 8 inches)

(b) a list of items that can be brought free of charge and are not considered personal effects (depending on the airline, this may include: a jacket and / or umbrella, food or goods purchased at the airport, reading materials, assistive medical devices, child restraint systems or FAA car seat, etc.)

(c) fees and other expenses related to additional items that you may take with you on board.
